Case Study
The 501 School District in Topeka, Kansas found itself with a challenge where it was necessary to
consider two unique perspectives. The school campus has two greenhouses that are built
completely from glass. The students use these greenhouses to study biology and plant life. The
hot Kansas summers made the working environment inside the greenhouses unbearable for the
students. Also, the constant glare from the sun made it very difficult for the students to work and
study. Window film was an obvious solution to correct these problems, but how would it affect
the health of the plants?
The answer was SunTek's Spectrally Selective product line, Ultra-Vision (ULV). ULV 50% allows much
of the sun's visible light to pass through the glass, thereby preserving the plants. However, it also
provides the heat rejection and glare reduction needed to keep the students comfortable. The
product also provides 99% UV rejection and is virtually undetectable on the glass.
The 501 School District was extremely pleased with its decision to install SunTek's Ultra-Vision
product line. The students are comfortable and productive in their learning environment and
the plants they are studying are thriving.
